America's Safest Cities
Last week, 24/7WallSt.com released a report of America's Safest Cities and Temecula came in at #19!
"While the United States is safer than it has been for as far back as many Americans can remember, some cities are even safer, with violent crime rates less than half the current national rate. Using data from the FBI, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed violent crimes rates to identify America’s safest cities. Only the 294 midsize and large cities tracked by the FBI with populations of at least 100,000 were considered.
Cities with better economic conditions tend to have less violent crime. In Temecula, there were just 119 violent crimes reported per 100,000 residents in 2018, less than one-third the national violent crime rate of 369 per 100,000 and among the lowest rate of any city nationwide."(24/7WallSt.com) Read the full report here.

Housing and Community Development
The City was successful in its application for California Department of Housing and Community Development's (HCD) SB 2 grant funds! This grant provides funding and technical assistance to local governments in California to help cities and counties prepare, adopt, and implement plans and process improvements that streamline housing approvals and accelerate housing production.
A portion of the funding will be used to establish a permit ready accessory dwelling unit (ADU) program that is envisioned to encourage the construction of ADUs by offering property owners a selection of pre-approved ADU building plans that will reduce the baseline cost for homeowners by $20,000-$30,000.
Funding helps cities and counties:
· Accelerate housing production
· Streamline the approval of housing development affordable to owner and renter households at all income levels
· Facilitate housing affordability, particularly for lower- and moderate-income households
· Promote development consistent with the State Planning Priorities (Government Code Section 65041.1)
· Ensure geographic equity in the distribution and expenditure of the funds

Kosmont-Rose Institute Cost of Doing Business Survey
According to the Kosmont-Rose Institute Cost of Doing Business Survey, Temecula is one of the lowest cost cities in Riverside County to do business in! Temecula has the lowest business license fee in Riverside County and ranks as a "very low cost" city in RivCo to do business in with only 5 cities in Riverside County ranking as “very low cost”. We are also proud to say we rank in the top 7% of least expensive cities in terms of permitting costs in the Western US!
California's average business license fee comes in at $1,300.33 with Temecula's business license fee costing a mere $39! In comparison, seven of the twenty-three Riverside County cities surveyed have business license fees in excess of $1,000. Temecula also offers the lowest property tax rate in the county at 1.03% and no utility use tax!
What can we say? Temecula means Business!
Riverside County Transportation Commission
Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) is currently conducting a study to improve mobility on I-15 and needs your help! Caltrans and RCTC have partnered up to conduct preliminary engineering and environmental studies for the proposed I-15 Express Lanes Project Southern Extension. RCTC is leading development of the project and is urging public participation via in-person or online meetings. Three meetings are scheduled from November 12-14th from 6-8 pm. RCTC invites everyone to shares their comments, concerns, or support now through November 22. The City's 7th annual Commercial Brokers Breakfast held at City Hall is right around the corner.
