CALIFORNIA’S ONGOING DROUGHT WORSENS |
Throughout California, drought conditions continue to deteriorate this summer — including at Lake Oroville, the start of the State Water Project system, which is a primary drinking water source for approximately two-thirds of the state. While the water normally reaches the tree lines around Lake Oroville (above), water levels are down significantly because of minimal rain and snow fall this year. California officials are asking for voluntary conservation and EMWD is currently in Stage 2 of its Water Shortage Contingency Plan, which asks for a 25 percent voluntary reduction in use. The best way to become more efficient is to focus efforts on outdoor irrigation, where a majority of residential water is used. EMWD’s new Landscapes for Living program offers a variety of resources available to help you become more efficient and do your part during this historic drought.
